Hannover/Kapstadt, 1 December 2008. 18 men and women, 19 summit ascents and a 24.000 kilometre route: Today german HIV activist Joachim Franz and his team have reached the destination of their current expedition, the “cape2cape”-Tour. A fleet of five Volkswagen California Beach campervans were the official tour vehicles. Franz climbed the Tafelberg on World AIDS Day and placed a flag at the summit showing the estimated figure of unreported cases of HIV infections in South Africa. 18 others flags had been placed in Europe and Africa by the team during the last two month.
German ambassador to South Africa, Dieter Walter Haller, and representatives of several international world health organisations received the team in Kapstadt.

Joachim Franz thanked his partner Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The company has been supporting the team and their projects for more then seven years now.
„Those Volkswagen California are the most reliable vehicles to use for a tour like this. The vans have been essential when it was about the saftey of the expedition“, Franz said.

„cape2cape“ is the current part of the ongoing „aids awareness expeditions“, which the German Joachim Franz started in 2001 to gain attention for the topic of AIDS around the world.
