The first four positions in race one and four other podium positions in races two and three: the British Volkswagen customer team Carlin successfully started the title defence mission.
Jack Harvey claimed a lights-to-flag win from of his team mates Jazeman Jaafar and Carlos Sainz Jr at the opening round of the season at Oulton Park. In the second race Pietro Fantin and Jaafar took podium positions two and three with Volkswagen power. In the third race Harvey was successful again for Carlin after finishing second ahead of his team mate Harry Tincknell. As a result, after three of 29 races Harvey leads the championship with 41 points from Jaafar (35 points).
