Scirocco GTS at AMI Leipzig 2012

It’s 30 years since the Scirocco GTS first rolled off the production line, and the new Scirocco GTS tips its hat to the look of its predecessor, with coloured stripes running up the bonnet, roof and tailgate, like a racing car from the 1970s or 80s.  Also unique to the GTS are the custom-designed front and rear bumpers, exposed side sills, and black 18-inch ‘Thunder’ alloy wheels (behind which sit red-painted brake calipers), while a diffuser and roof-edge spoiler from the Scirocco R finish the look.  Under the bonnet is the 2.0-litre 210 PS TSI engine.  The interior is dominated by red and black, and there is also a dimpled golf-ball gear lever knob.  This distinctive item wasn’t just a feature of the first Golf GTI, but also the 1982 Scirocco GTS.
