Two rounds into its first year participating in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team remains undefeated.
Following Scott Speed’s win at the first round of the Championship in Barbados in the 7UP Polo, the talented American driver took his, and Volkswagen’s, second consecutive victory at Global Rallycross’ biggest stage—the summer X Games in Austin, Texas.
Speed said: “I can’t say enough for our team—these guys, it’s just their second race in rallycross. The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team is a bunch of IndyCar guys, and they have upped the level in terms of how you prepare these GRC cars. Our equipment is that good.”
Tanner Foust, driver of the Rockstar Energy Drink Polo, unfortunately suffered contact in the quarter final and had to retire from the event. But he won both of his heat rounds, giving him a total of 22 heat wins in Global Rallycross.
As a result of Speed’s win, he is leading the Driver Championship with 54 points, and Volkswagen is currently second in the Manufacturer Championship, with 58 points. The next round of the Global Rallycross Championship is Volkswagen Rallycross DC, close to Volkswagen of America’s Herndon headquarters. The event takes place on June 21 and 22 at RFK Stadium.
