Double success for the Golf GTI TCR

One weekend, two trophies – and almost 6,000 kilometres apart, as the crow flies! The Golf GTI TCR enjoyed an extremely successful weekend. Liqui Moly Team Engstler secured the Team title in the inaugural TCR Middle East series at the season finale, which took place at the Bahrain International Circuit. Despite the joy at this success, there were still a few disappointed faces in the garage shortly after the race, as both Engstler driver Brandon Gdovic (USA) and Lucas Engstler (D) had gone into the final round with good chances of winning the Drivers’ Championship. However, the title ultimately went to TCR Germany champion Josh Files (GB), who won two races to end the season ahead of Gdovic and Engstler.

From a driver point of view, the opening round of TCR Asia – about 6,000 kilometres away at the Sepang Grand Prix circuit in Malaysia – panned out perfectly. The Team Engstler Golf GTI TCR, with Kantadhee Kusiri and Diego Moran at the wheel, dominated both races and the opposition. Thai driver Kusiri won race one, before Ecuador’s Diego Moran produced an outstanding start from third on the grid to take victory in race two. TCR Asia consists of seven rounds in Malaysia, Thailand, China and Macau. The finale will take place on the iconic street circuit in Macau on 19 November.
