Shown at 2018 Volkswagen's Annual Media Conference this new People's SUV will be produced in China from 2018 and from 2020 in Mexico, Argentina & Russia.
The People's SUV is named after the 2WD Tarek buggy Volkswagen Motorsport used (2003) prior to its Race Touareg racer which was campaigned from 2004-2011. The name in Arabic roughly translates to Morning Star, 'to strike' and or Striker. This name is expected in South America as revealed by a leaked preview at an Internal Conference for the South American market.
The project is being led by SAIC Volkswagen and has a project name of Tharu which it could also be called in other markets globally.
The People's SUV is expected for the start of production in August 2018 with a possible reveal in November at the Guangzhou International Auto Show.
