Volkswagen T-Cross is in the final stages of testing in Brazil.

  • T-Cross is in the stage of tests and evaluations under shooting conditions on Brazilian roads
  • Modular Strategy MQB will allow the adoption of driving assistance and safety features hitherto only available on vehicles of higher categories
  • Distance between the axles of the model produced in Brazil will be the largest of the segment: 2,651 mm
  • Volkswagen invests in the offering of TSI engines, which bring together the best in performance and energy efficiency
  • All versions will be equipped as standard with Stability Control (ESC)
T-Cross is already in the final stages of testing and evaluations in Brazil. The model will redesign the world of SUVs in the Brazilian market, with compact dimensions and smart construction. The official world premiere of T-Cross will take place in the second half of this year. While we wait until then, Volkswagen reveals the first details of this SUV, which is almost ready for series production.

T-Cross will be produced in São José dos Pinhais (PR) - for which the factory received R $ 2 billion in investments - and is part of the five brand new SUVs to be launched in the region by 2020.

Built on the MQB Modular Strategy, the T-Cross will stand out for its dynamic behavior, spacious and comfortable cab, efficient range of engines and advanced technology, connectivity and safety features with many driving aids.

"Practical, cool, intuitive and safe" . These are the four main features of T-Cross: "Practical" - more space and flexibility; "Funky" - striking and individual design; "Intuitive" - digital and connected; "Safe" - one of the safest cars in its segment.

The T-Cross measures 4,199 mm in length and 1,568 mm in height (10 mm higher than the European T-Cross). The distance between the axles of the model that will be produced in Brazil is the largest of the segment: 2.651 mm (88 mm more than the wheelbase of the European T-Cross). Therefore, the T-Cross is considerably larger than the Polo, whose dimensions are: 4.057 mm in length, 1,468 mm in height and 2,565 mm in between.

The T-Cross will have two TSI engine options, which combine direct fuel injection and turbocharger to deliver high energy efficiency and driving pleasure.

The 200 TSI Total Flex (1.0L) engine develops power of up to 128 hp (94 kW) with ethanol. The 250 TSI Total Flex (1.4L) engine generates power of up to 150 hp (110 kW).

"Practical": The new SUV offers amazing space in the cabin. One of the elements responsible for this is the Modular Strategy MQB - which allows great flexibility of construction thanks to variable parameters (among them, the inter-axle distance and the gauges).

The MQB Modular Strategy also reverses the "weight gain" trend that can occur with vehicles as new care or comfort features are added: almost all parts are optimized in their construction, or made from different material compositions, therefore, are significantly lighter.

The vehicles produced in the MQB Modular Strategy feature great weight reductions - without compromising safety or driving comfort. Powertrain loses weight thanks to the use of aluminum. The components of the vehicle's electrical system also weigh less. Intelligent material selection and improved construction help save weight in the chassis area.

The capacity of the trunk is excellent (volume is variable between 373 and 420 liters). The folding backrest of the front passenger seat offers even more flexibility. Typical of an SUV is the raised seating position on the T-Cross. The high viewing angle of the T-Cross is achieved thanks to greater ground clearance and the bench system.

"Cool": The design is remarkable. The front stands out for its height; the design is charismatic with a wide grille and integrated LED headlamps. Also responsible for this height is the engine compartment cover. The lower region of the front is distinguished by details such as marked fog lights.

In the versions of T-Cross with halogen headlights, the daytime running light is integrated into the fog lamp module; already in the case of full-LED headlights, the daytime running light is located above the headlight housing.

On the sides, a distinctive accented line divides the spaces. Behind it, it forms a striking section of shoulders, and marks on the back a new design element from Volkswagen: the range of reflectors stretched across the back and framed by a black panel.

Panel covers integrate the youthful style and the eight colors of the exterior (optionally also bi-color) combined with the interior of the vehicle explicitly generously designed for this class.

Music from your smartphone or streaming services can be played back with the "Beats" sound system with seven speakers and premium sound quality.

"Intuitive": It is still too early to reveal all the new technical details of the interior. Of course, the T-Cross also includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the state-of-the-art Active Info Display instrument cluster.

Four USB ports (two on the front, two on the back) ensure optimal connection and sufficient power for smartphones. The optional "Kessy" locking and starting system makes T-Cross access more comfortable, while full-LED headlights provide more light efficiency and driver comfort.

"Safe": The positive influence of the MQB Modular Strategy is evident in all areas of T-Cross. Thanks to MQB, the SUV will already enter the competition as one of the safest vehicles in its class - guaranteed by the use of ultra-high-strength, hot-formed steels by the six airbags (front, side and curtain ") And a particularly wide range of assistance systems.

In addition to front and rear parking sensors, the T-Cross can also be equipped with the "Park Assist 3.0" system, which allows for autonomous parking in parallel and transverse spaces - and now with the brake function of maneuver.

Among other assistance systems are the "Automatic Collision Braking" (automatically triggers the brakes of the vehicle in case of an accident) and the "Fatigue Detector" (detects the loss of driver concentration and the system recommends a pause for rest).

In addition, the T-Cross can be equipped with "Driving profile selector", for the driver to adjust the steering experience between normal, ecological, sporting or individual modes.

All versions will be equipped as standard with ESC - Electronic stability controlThis system recognizes an early stage that a critical shooting situation is about to happen. Compares the driver's commands with the reactions of the vehicle to this command. If necessary, the system reduces engine torque and brakes one or more wheels until it reaches the stability condition.
