SAIC Volkswagen engineers have been caught in the final stages of testing the Phideon (GP) facelift in China. Phideon is SAIC Volkswagen's flagship sedan model which is based on the (4G) Audi A6 MLB platform adapted for China.
What is interesting is the spy photo has caught Phideon GP testing a new centre front grille and VW emblem that illuminate. This was first seen on a VW, with the C Coupe GTE Concept (Phideon concept) at Auto Shanghai 2015.
It is expected that Phideon GP will carry over the EA888 2.0L TSI with 165kW and 350Nm of torque and the EA837 3.0L TFSI V6 220kW and 440Nm of torque.
I expect the EA888 2.0L TSI with an electric motor to also launch, a plug-in hybrid variation, as Volkswagen brand is electrifying most model variations in China. This concept was seen at Auto Shanghai 2017.
