Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding its versatile Transporter range to include large-capacity taxi versions based on the Transporter Kombi and Caravelle. The modern 8-seaters (optionally with 9 seats) are now available at prices starting at 46,600 euros1 (Transporter with taxi package) and 47,930 euros1 (Caravelle with taxi package). Both models can be configured with turbocharged diesel engines (TDI), a plug-in hybrid drive and even an all-electric drive. Two wheelbases can also be ordered. In addition to the new Transporter Kombi and Caravelle, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also offers the Caddy, Multivan, ID. Buzz and Crafter as taxi and private hire vehicle versions.
Two-tone leatherette: the taxi versions of the Transporter Kombi and Caravelle can be individually tailored to their respective use. The special options include leatherette for the interior equipment. A two-tone leatherette version is also available. This material is very robust and has an attractive look and feel. The inner seat surfaces of the two-tone version are grey leatherette and the outer surfaces black leatherette. The seats are enhanced by light-coloured contrasting topstitching. In the passenger compartment, USB-C interfaces are fitted as standard to supply passengers with power for their smartphones and tablets.
Light Ivory from the factory: other equipment details include the classic Light Ivory colour used for taxis in Germany with the colour code RAL 1015. A wide range of other solid, metallic and pearl-effect paint finishes is also available.
Hard-wearing: the optional rubber floor covering in the driver, passenger and load compartment. In addition to the basic taxi package with preparation for a taximeter or mirror taximeter, a taxi emergency alarm system plus roof sign holder is available as a package. An LED taxi roof sign can be ordered as an option. In addition, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is offering an upgrade from 8 to 9 seats (9-seater package with double front passenger bench seat) for both models, as well as a fuel tank with a capacity of 70 litres instead of 55 litres (diesel models). The optional equipment for the Transporter and Caravelle range can be used to further customise the taxi and private hire vehicle models.
Digital taxi cockpit: the two large-capacity taxis are started using the Keyless Start button between the cockpit and infotainment display. The digital cockpit landscape (Digital Cockpit with 30 cm diameter and 13-inch infotainment display with 33 cm diameter) extends on a visual axis to the left and right of the starter button. Always included: DAB+ and App-Connect Wireless for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a 5G module on board for updates and digital data transfer. The interior mirror can be optionally ordered either as a mirror taximeter or as a digital rear-view mirror. The latter is camera-based and therefore provides visibility to the rear of the vehicle, even when the rear is occupied with passengers and the load compartment is loaded. In this case, a dash cam function is integrated in the mirror.
Large-capacity taxis: the 8-seater and optional 9-seater large-capacity taxis are equipped as standard with three seats in the second row and a 3-seater bench seat in the third row (optional for Transporter Kombi). The load area up to the third row of seats has a depth of 732 mm (short wheelbase) or 1,132 mm (long wheelbase). If the large-capacity taxis are used as 5- or 6-seaters, the stowage volume behind the second row of seats increases to just over 1.8 m3 (short wheelbase) or 2.4 m3 (long wheelbase).
