São Bernardo do Campo, April 6, 2026 – The OT-Cross Seleção is Volkswagen's newest vehicle to represent the brand in the world of football. Focusing on value for money and an exclusive package, the model celebrates the brand's sponsorship of all Brazilian National Football Teams and revives a tradition that Volkswagen inaugurated in the country: connecting its cars to this sport so deeply ingrained in national culture.
For decades, Volkswagen has built a genuine and unique legacy with football. It was the first automotive manufacturer in Brazil to create commemorative series linked to the sport, paving a path that would become part of the emotional memory of generations. This relationship rests on three strong pillars with the Brazilian public — Connection, Passion, and Stories — and makes the brand a natural protagonist in this combination.
After all, long before the special editions, the Beetle, Kombi, Brasília, and so many other classics were already part of the streets that were colored green and yellow in the 70s and 80s, accompanying fans to the stadiums and actively participating in the celebrations of each title won.
A historic lineup
Volkswagen's history with football is marked by iconic models that have accompanied the national team at different times. The tradition began in 1982 with the first Gol Copa, launched during the World Cup in Spain — the first football-themed series created by a car manufacturer in Brazil.
The move marked an important strategy for the brand, as the Gol was still consolidating its image in the market, and the association with the world of football helped to bring the model closer to the Brazilian public. The initiative practically inaugurated the tradition of special editions linked to football, which would later become recurrent in the industry. In total, 3,000 units were produced.
In 1994, the "Gol do Tetra" (Tetra Gol) arrived to celebrate the title won by the Brazilian National Team in the United States. At that time, the Gol already held the market leadership—a position it had maintained since 1987. This edition marked the farewell of the "square" Gol and today is a coveted item for collectors. Approximately 6,000 units were produced.
In 2002, the year of the fifth championship, it was the turn of the Gol Sport, which became one of the most iconic special editions of the model, with exclusive features and a production run exceeding 15,000 units. Based on the Gol G3, the special edition gained prominence by adopting yellow as one of its most emblematic colors. Considered one of the most iconic editions of the model, the car featured the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in its category at the time and came standard with a CD player, four speakers, two tweeters, and dual-focus headlights.
The Gol Copa special edition series ended in 2006 with the edition launched during the World Cup in Germany. This third and final version arrived at a time when the Gol had already established itself as the best-selling car in the history of the Brazilian automotive industry. More comprehensive than its predecessors, it allowed customers to choose between 1.0 or 1.6 engines. In total, approximately 16,000 units were produced.
The relationship with the Brazilian National Team intensified in 2010 with the launch of the Gol Seleção, already in direct partnership with the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation). The model featured exclusive elements celebrating this partnership, including its own visual identity, special "Seleção" emblems, and a blue color developed especially for the series. Highly exclusive, the edition had a limited production run of approximately 3,000 units. The launch reinforced precisely this vocation: a popular, accessible car deeply connected to the national passion.
Four years later, with the World Cup held in Brazil, Volkswagen expanded its lineup and simultaneously launched the Gol Seleção, Voyage Seleção, and Fox Seleção, bringing the football spirit to different consumer profiles.
New Number 10 - the first SUV called up
With the rise of SUVs in the Brazilian market, the T-Cross naturally assumes a leading role in the Seleção package.
Produced in São José dos Pinhais (PR), the model has just surpassed 600,000 units manufactured since 2019. It is a three-time champion among SUVs and remains the absolute leader in 2026, reinforcing its trajectory as one of the most influential vehicles in the brand's recent history.
The OT-Cross Seleção is the first Volkswagen SUV to receive a commemorative edition linked to football, arriving with an exclusive look, expanded features, and strong value for money.
Just as the Brazilian national team is a five-time world champion, the T-Cross also boasts five stars in the Latin NCAP, with the highest possible rating for adult and child protection. The model offers a complete safety package — six airbags, electronic stability and traction controls, electronic differential lock (EDS), and ISOFIX and Top Tether child seat anchors. These attributes reinforce the model's commitment to safety, one of the most valued pillars by consumers in this segment.
Under the hood, the acclaimed 200 TSI 1.0 turbo engine, with 128 hp and 20.4 kgfm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, continues to deliver a balance between performance, economy, and robustness — a combination that helped the model solidify its leadership in the segment.
T-Cross Selection
Based on the Sense version — traditionally aimed at the corporate channel — the T-Cross Seleção comes with a robust set of standard equipment, which already includes:
- LED headlights
- 8-inch digital instrument panel
- VW Play 10.1-inch multimedia center with App-Connect
- Disc brakes on all four wheels
- Six airbags
- Multifunctional steering wheel
- Rear parking sensors
- Hill Start Assist
- LED headlights and taillights with automatic activation.
T-Cross Seleção also receives content inherited from higher-end versions, reinforcing its proposition of offering extra appeal within its price range.
Among the distinguishing features are 17-inch alloy wheels (the same as the Comfortline version); sporty aluminum pedals (like the Highline); a set of exclusive stickers – side decals with the Seleção name and five stars – and the name Brasil with the CBF logo on the rear hatch; mirrors and door handles painted in glossy black; Seleção-branded carpet mats, as well as exclusive CBF door sills – with easter eggs: formations of the champion national teams on the driver's side and Seleção and VW logos united by the phrase "Giants by their own nature" on the passenger side.
Pirelli tires with Seal Inside technology.
The T-Cross Seleção also features Pirelli's Seal Inside tires as a key differentiator—a technology currently only available on the top-of-the-line Extreme version—a tire that seals punctures on its own. Pirelli Seal Inside technology enhances mobility by ensuring the tire continues to run normally and safely, even in the event of a puncture and without air loss.
This is possible thanks to a sealant applied to the inside of the tire tread during manufacturing, which surrounds the puncturing object and seals the puncture, even if it is removed. The system works for objects up to four millimeters in diameter.
Because it is self-sealing, the technology makes punctures virtually imperceptible to the driver and avoids inconveniences such as changing a tire in rainy conditions, isolated locations, or on the shoulder of a highway during a trip.
Blue Champion
In addition to Ninja Black, Pure White, and Pyrite Silver, one of the available colors for the new Seleção T-Cross is Norway Blue, which has a connection to the history of the Brazilian National Team. Although canary yellow is the color most associated with the Brazilian team, the blue jersey also has fundamental importance in its history of achievements.
In 1958, Brazil played in the World Cup final wearing blue, since their opponent Sweden also played in yellow. And the shirt brought them luck, with the national team winning their first world title. In the victorious campaigns of 1994 and 2002, Brazil also had to take the field in blue shirts in important matches, which made the blue shirt as emblematic as the yellow one.
With this package, the T-Cross Seleção is ready to take the field. The model will arrive at dealerships starting in May — and this is just the first themed novelty from Volkswagen for the season.
