"Towards the New", Volkswagen will launch more than 30 highly competitive new models in various relevant market segments in the next three years, most of which are new energy models, covering pure electric models, plug-in hybrid models and extended-range models to meet the diverse needs of Chinese consumers. The three new concept cars that made their debut: the first compact pure electric concept sedan ID. AURA based on the CMP platform and CEA architecture from FAW-Volkswagen, the first full-size extended-range SUV concept car ID. ERA from SAIC Volkswagen, and the first full-time connected full-size pure electric SUV concept car ID. EVO from Volkswagen Anhui, further interpret Volkswagen's exclusive design and technology DNA for China, and inject unique and differentiated styles into the products of each joint venture. These three concept cars have drawn a clear prospect for the future products of the Volkswagen brand, and mass-produced models will be launched one after another from 2026.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said: "40 years ago, the Volkswagen brand brought cars into every household in China. Today, with a clear strategic focus and a sound layout, we are ready to continue this success story. The three new concept cars prove that our 'in China, for China' strategy is showing results, promoting transformation at the 'China speed' and adhering to Volkswagen's high quality and safety standards without compromise."
Stefan Mecha, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars China, said: "Volkswagen is committed to bringing first-class products to Chinese users. Together with the three joint ventures, we are fulfilling this promise to bring a wider and more competitive product selection, providing high-end technology and timeless forward-looking design - 100% emotionally loaded."
The product offensive is fully accelerated to meet the diverse needs of users.
In the next three years, Volkswagen will launch a product portfolio covering all categories of fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles, and further expand its market layout. As the pillar of the transformation, the Volkswagen brand will continue to upgrade its popular fuel models, launch smarter and more efficient products, and gradually launch hybrid versions of core models, extending the user-favored products to the new energy product matrix. Electrification has become an integral part of Volkswagen's "In China, for China" strategy. Starting from 2026, Volkswagen will launch more than 20 advanced new energy models in the Chinese market, including pure electric models, plug-in hybrid models and extended-range models, to meet the diverse needs of Chinese consumers. The three concept cars unveiled this time are a preview of Volkswagen's future electrification.
More competitive: ID. AURA concept car
With the young, dynamic and family-friendly ID. AURA concept car, Volkswagen will consolidate its position in the highly competitive compact market and attract the attention of a wider and more diverse user group. As the Volkswagen brand's first pure electric concept sedan built on the CMP platform, ID. AURA has dynamic and smooth body lines, and the headlight design highlights modern aesthetics, which complements the extremely sporty body posture. The concise interior space provides a seamless operating experience and abundant storage space. Thanks to the empowerment of the CEA architecture, L2++ advanced driving assistance and AI virtual assistant make travel more "smart" and always connected.
More suitable for long-distance travel: Extended-range ID. ERA concept car
The ID. ERA concept car is designed to meet the market's growing demand for extended-range models. Its comprehensive range exceeds 1,000 kilometers (CLTC), bringing consumers a worry-free journey. This concept car combines a simple and elegant design with cutting-edge technologies such as L2++ urban navigation driving assistance (NOA) and multiple advanced parking assistance. The spacious and comfortable six-seat cabin is equipped with a new car-machine interaction system, Smart Surface interactive screen and AI smart assistant based on the Chinese language model, bringing an immersive driving experience.
100% pure electric: ID. EVO concept car
The ID. EVO concept car will further enhance Volkswagen's pure electric product lineup and is designed for user groups pursuing a diverse lifestyle. The ID. EVO concept car's unusual body proportions, unique golden light strip center line and interesting 3D LED dynamic interactive light language make it stand out. The interior space is like a "mobile living room", equipped with an infotainment display extending to the co-pilot seat and a new generation of Gen X steering wheel with multiple convenient operations. In addition, L2++ urban NOA, a range of up to 700 kilometers (CLTC) and 800V supercharging technology will bring users a safe and relaxed travel experience.
Human-oriented design, unique ingenuity
All three concept cars follow Volkswagen's exclusive design and technological DNA for China. While highlighting the distinctive characteristics of the brand, they further reflect the distinctive design style and charm of the three joint ventures of FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC Volkswagen and Volkswagen Anhui. Taking lighting design as an example, the three concept cars have their own characteristics and are full of emotional connections. The lighting design of ID. AURA is like a pair of "eyes", conveying a sense of intimacy and warmth; the high-mounted brake light at the rear of ID. EVO incorporates the Wolfsburg wolf head logo, symbolizing the close cooperation between the Chinese and German teams; and the headlights of ID. ERA are in the shape of a "handshake", implying harmonious progress between partners.
Further integrate into the local travel ecosystem to accelerate innovation
At this press conference, the Volkswagen brand emphasized that it will continue to enhance local R&D capabilities through Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. (VCTC), and coordinate a series of targeted local cooperation to further integrate into the local travel ecosystem and provide solutions that better meet the needs of Chinese consumers. The important results of this strategy have taken shape.
At present, the CMP platform, a "body" tailored for compact cars, has entered the actual road test stage and will be able to provide more friendly and competitive product options. At the same time, the CEA architecture, as the core of the brand's digital architecture for electric models in China, is like an intelligent "brain". It can not only reduce system complexity and optimize cost efficiency, but also quickly and closely integrate with L2++ advanced driving assistance, artificial intelligence cockpit and firmware remote update (FOTA) and other technologies. The CMP platform and CEA architecture can achieve 40% cost optimization and increase the speed of research and development to market by more than 30%. Models equipped with the CMP platform and CEA architecture will be launched in 2026.
The high-tech booth creates an immersive experience
The Volkswagen brand booth is presented with the concept of "digital gift box", and the floating sky screen, dynamic wall screen and full-body floor screen create a sense of the future. The booth has a variety of interesting interactive experience links, such as VR driving experience, digital photo booth, AI body design experience area, etc., which can be linked through the Volkswagen brand WeChat applet to enhance the immersive technology experience.
In addition, more than 20 existing fuel and new energy models of the Volkswagen brand were also unveiled, including FAW-Volkswagen's new Tayron L and new Talagon, SAIC Volkswagen Teramont Pro, and Volkswagen Anhui's newly launched pure electric model, the ID. UNYX 06.
